MUSIC DIRECTORS
ORGANIST/PIANIST
PCA provides multiple opportunities for the church to praise God through music. Music is an essential element of the Sunday morning worship service. With Paul Berry on the organ and piano to accompany the worship hymns and to provide meditative and meaningful songs, our worship experience is enhanced for each person attending.
Another pillar of the worship service is the PCA choir that sings an anthem during the worship service three Sundays out of four. The choir rehearses every Wednesday night at 7:15pm and again on Sunday mornings at 9:15am. Singers of all abilities are welcome.
The worship service music is also supported by the PCA Worship Band that plays more contemporary and inspirational songs about once a month. The Band rehearses every Sunday after the worship service in one of the Sunday School rooms. Musicians of all types can attend and join in the fun.
PCA has various ensembles that form and provide worship music on an as-needed basis. The most prominent of these is the DOME (Decent and Orderly Men’s Ensemble), a men’s quartet that sings gospel music occasionally during the worship services. The children of PCA step into the service to play tone chimes for the congregation. There is also a Children’s Choir, Guest Musicians, and a variety of instruments played throughout the year.
PCA is also blessed to produce special music events during the year. One is the Summer Salon, a gathering of professional musicians from the Twin Cities area that provide an evening of high-quality music for the church and the community. Another yearly event is the PCA Christmas Cantata, a creative presentation of one aspect of the Christmas story interpreted through drama and music and written by the PCA choir director, Jerri Johnson. The 2019 cantata, entitled "Behold the Lamb of God!" contained original drama, and music of Handel, William Rowan and others. It truly was a rich and unique Christmas event.
PCA encourages all musicians of any ability and type to share their musical gifts. Musicians from the church and the community make ‘guest appearances’ throughout the year to enhance the PCA worship experience.
PCA has a long tradition of excellent volunteer musicians and vigorous congregational singing. At PCA, a wonderful blend of classical music, contemporary music, and a variety of music styles combine to bring our praise to God, and help to remind us of God’s lovingkindness.
